If you have aspects you don’t like about your teeth or smile, such as discoloration or cracked teeth, Lumineers offer a solution. This type of veneer can create a new look and give you an entire smile makeover, if that’s what you desire.

At Linworth Family Dental, we offer both Lumineers and traditional veneers to our patients among our many cosmetic dentistry services. We are happy to find the right solution to help each patient with their personalized goals.

What Are Lumineers?

Lumineers are the brand name for a type of veneers. The veneer dental treatment, which we also offer at our office, involves covering the surface of the teeth with thin shells made of porcelain. The idea is to put perfectly shaped and colored tooth-like pieces over gaps, chips, cracks and other issues.

Lumineers are slightly different from regular veneers while achieving the same goals of improving the appearance, alignment and/or bite of your teeth. This brand is even thinner than regular veneers, which are already thin.

The slimmer design of Lumineers means that our dentists can skip removing some of the enamel from the fronts of the teeth, which is done to help regular veneers line up with surrounding teeth. This process is irreversible and makes it so you always need a tooth covering. With Lumineers, we leave the natural tooth intact, giving you the room to remove the covers if you ever decide to do so.

Lumineers have some other benefits compared to traditional porcelain veneers as well. The slimness creates a translucent effect that more closely resembles the natural sheen of a tooth. Despite the extra thinness, these covers are strong and durable, lasting much longer than regular veneers. With proper care, they can stay in good shape for as long as 20 years.

What Is the Lumineer Process?

Our team begins with a consultation to see if Lumineers fit your situation. If you decide on this procedure, we use our office’s innovative technology to create images of your teeth that are used to design your Lumineers to the ideal custom shape, size and color.

Skipping the tooth surface preparation of regular veneers creates a simpler attachment process that is faster, doesn’t use anesthetic and doesn’t require temporary veneers while waiting for the creation of the permanent ones.

Once we have your custom Lumineers ready, one of our dentists puts them in place and adjusts them as needed. Then, we use a dental glue to permanently attach them to the surfaces of your teeth.
